Governor Cup: Ensure every ward presents players, Ikyange charges coordinators

The Benue State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange has charged the sports coordinators in all the 23 Local Government Areas, to ensure that players from every council ward are represented in the Governor Cup football competition in Benue State.

IKyange gave the charge after the draws for the 2024 Governor Cup held at the Batoha Hotels, Makurdi in Benue State. He said, “I want to charge all of you the participating coordinators, to ensure that players from every council ward in your areas are represented”.

The commissioner who said the fiesta would be split into four centers of Gboko, Vandeikya, Oju and Otukpo respectively, expressed appreciation to Governor Hyacinth Alia for his commitment to sports development in the state, especially by approving funds for the revival of the Governor Cup. And that, “I am very optimistic that the Benue State Football Association BSFA will do a good job by ensuring that the 2024 edition is the best”.

Also speaking, the Director of Sports/Chairman of Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi, Philip Nongu expressed appreciation to the governor for reviving the Governor Cup. He said, “I want to enjoin all the teams that are participating in the tourney, to abide by the rules and regulations as a mark of appreciation to the governor, for reviving the competition after eight years of its absence in the state”.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Benue State Football Association BSFA, Paul Edeh who commended Governor Alia for his show of love for sports especially football, disclosed that, “the 2024 edition of the Governor Cup will feature in both the men and women categories and they will all have their different prizes”.

Edeh advised teams that would feature in the Governor Cup, to ensure that only eligible players are allowed to play in the competition in order to avoid sanctions adding that, “the competition will identify talents”.
