NYCN dismisses alleged negligence to Lafia flyover/underpass accident

The Nasarawa State Chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has dismissed alleged negligence to the death of a worker at the ongoing construction  of Lafia flyover and underpass by the state government.

The NYCN said the incident was clearly an accident and unforseen circumstances.

They condoled the family of the deceased and expressed sympathy to those who sustained varying degrees of injury during the regrettable incident.

Chairman NYCN in the State, Comrade Jaafar Loko made the clarification on Tuesday during an assessment visit to the site  in Lafia. 

Loko noted  that the incident was not in any way due to negligence of the construction company but an unforeseen circumstance.

He commended the company  handling the project, Triacta Nigeria Limited for the proactive steps taken to for stalling future occurrences and accepting responsibility to carter for the injured as well as reaching out to the family of the deceased. 

“We appeal for calm as the company has taken measures to ensure that no repeat of such incident occurs in any of their sites.

“Triacta  is a leading construction company in the nation and has been actively involved in construction works in different parts of the state with no record of such incident.

” The Council, therefore, wishes to commiserate with the site manager, family, and loved ones of the deceased and those who sustained injuries during the unfortunate accident. We call on them to accept this tragic incident as God’s divine design,” he said.

Loko also lauded the level and quality of the ongoing construction of the first flyover and underpass in the Lafia awarded by the Governor of the State, Engr Abdullahi Sule.

” We believe that the flyover and underpass project is a well-thought-out idea to not only beautify the city of Lafia as the capital of the state but to ensure the free flow of traffic, especially as the city continues to witness the influx of people and investors from across Nigeria due to its serene and accommodating nature. 

” We plan  to embark on local government tour to  inspect some of the ongoing projects across the local government areas by the state government,” he added.

The chairman lauded Gov Sule for  undertaking gigantic projects  in Lafia and across the state, saying that he has proven himself to be a true and visionary leader .

He, therefore called on Triacta Nigeria Limited to deliver its corporate social responsibility by providing employment opportunities to youths in the state.

On his part, Project Manager, Engr Maroun El Rahi who expressed sadness over the death of the deceased , said  that the accident occurred due to natural forces.

El Rahi assured that the company have put in place safety measures to prevent future occurrence and condoled families of those affected by the ugly incident.

The project manager said the construction of the flyover and underpass was at the finishing stage and would be completed in few months.

He said the project when completed would satisfy the people of the state and appreciated residents for the cooperation and support given to them even as he called for its sustenance.
