The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 1,600 corps members of the 2024 Batch C Stream I set deployed to Nasarawa state for their one year national service.
Governor Abdullahi Sule while declaring the orientation course open at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa NYSC permanent orientation camp in Keffi Local Government Area of the state on Friday urged the corp members to reflect on the weight of the responsibilities on them, adding that their service transcends geographical boundaries .
Sule epresented by Hon Ja’afaru Ango, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development also urged them to pay meticulous attention to the content of the bye-laws of the scheme and ensure they serve as guiding principles throughout the service year as they provide the framework for a successful and impactful service year.
“It is a bridge that connects diverse communities, fostering understanding and collaboration. Therefore, your efforts-both big and small will leave indelible marks on the lives of those you serve. Take this chance to learn, lead and leave your mark.
“Gentlemen corps members, while wishing you a successful, hitch-free and rewarding orientation course, I enjoin you to shun all forms of vices and to participate actively in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship training that will prepare you for economic development,” he said.
The governor congratulated the corps members for the successful completion of their academic pursuits which qualified them for national service.
He lauded the NYSC management, stakeholders and collaborating agencies for their dedication to service and abiding auth in the core objectives of the scheme.
In her remarks, Hajiya Salamatu Muhammad, Coordinator of the scheme in the state explained that the orientation course was not just a routine exercise but a program designed to acquaint the corps members with the values and objectives of NYSC.
“Beyond that, it aims to foster unity l, cultural understanding and a deep sense of patriotism. While the orientation is regimented, it is a platform for physical and metal training, discipline l and inculcation of the spirit of collective responsibility,” she said.
Hajiya Muhammad explained that the orientation course comprises of physical training, intellectual and motivational lectures, sporting and social activities, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme amongst others.
She lauded the attitude of the corps members posted to the state comprising 731 males and 869 females since the commencement of the orientation especially with regards to their response towards the training.
The state coordinator however called on the corps members to adhere to camp rules, respect constituted authority and actively participate in all activities.
She therefore appreciated Gov Sule for his support to the schemes and also thanked the Chief Judge of Nasarawa state, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu for her role in administering the pledge of oath of allegiance to the corps members during the ceremony.
