Ahead of full take off of its Cancer centre, the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH has sent over 30 staff for training in oncology and other related fields.
The hospital has also commenced Basic Nursing Programmes in three specialties comprising; Mental and Psychiatric Nursing, Nephrology Nursing and Ophthalmic Nursing.
The Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, Dr Stephen Hwande announced this on Thursday at a Press briefing held in Makurdi.
Dr Hwande stated that in the past one year, the hospital has intensified efforts on human resource development in different specialties noting that with the addition of the three schools, the hospital now has eight schools running in different specialties covering community health and Nursing.
He encouraged members of the public with requisite qualifications to take advantage of the trainings to become specialists in the fields.
He explained that forms for admission are already on sale for the newly introduced nursing specialty programmes, and the admission processes will cover a few weeks while lectures will commence soon.
Speaking further, he reiterated that the hospital’s goal is to become a medical tourist centre stressing that there were many ongoing construction projects in the facility including water intervention work, VIP wing, drug, reagent and hospital consumables projects among others, all targeted at repositioning the hospital to achieve its vision.
