The Nasarawa State Government has debunked media report claiming that pupils in the state’s public primary schools in the state learn on bare floors.
A statement issued on Thursday by the
Senior Special Assistant Governor Abdullahi Sule on Public Affairs, Hon Peter Ahemba described the publication in Daily Trust Newspaper as false and misleading.
According to Ahemba, the media report is not only a gross misrepresentation of the facts on the ground but a sponsored mischief designed to tarnish the image of government .
He further stated that the report undermines the transformations taking place in the education sub-sector of the state, particularly in the area of Basic Education under Governor Sule-led administration.
He said: “While it is true that some schools in the state may have infrastructure challenges as obtains in all the developing nations, the Nasarawa State Government has made significant investments towards enhancing a conducive environment for both teaching and learning through massive construction/renovation of classrooms and provision of furniture, among other facilities in public primary schools across the state.
“Just recently, the Engr. Sule-led government through the State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), again distributed thousands of desks, chairs, and other educational materials to public primary schools in the state.
“Additionally, the State Government has continued to commit enormous resources in the provision of perimeter fencing in public primary and secondary schools, provision of boreholes, geophysical survey and landscaping, among other facilities to enhance a conducive environment necessary for effective teaching and learning.
“Members of the public are therefore, urged to disregard the misleading report in its entirety. We call on journalists to always verify and cross-check their sources of information through official channels before publication to avoid dishing out misleading information.
“The State Government remains committed in ensuring improved standard of education through the provision of basic facilities, staff training and re-training, periodic recruitment of teachers to bridge manpower gap and enhancement of their welfare by prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements. “
