Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Hon Hyacinth Dajoh has called on the state government to complete the ongoing renovation and remodeling of the assembly complex.
Hon. Dajoh made the call recently in an address to mark the end of the second sitting of the second legislative session (2024 to 2025) of the Tenth Assembly held at the Hearing Hall, Benue State House of Assembly, Makurdi
“My remarks will not be complete without acknowledging the commitment of the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia to complete renovation of the House of Assembly Complex in 2025 “, Speaker Dajoh stated.
He further stated that “In line with our annual calendar of business, the Second Sitting was supposed to last from Wednesday, 24 October, 2024 to Monday, 23 December, 2024 with the recess commencing on Tuesday, 24th December, 2024. However, the House could not adhere to the calendar so as to pass the 2025 Budget before the end of the year”
The Speaker said, during the period under review, the House received sixteen (16) Bills, passed seven (7), four (4) at committees level while five (5) are pending.
According to him, The House also received thirteen (13) reports, out of which one (1) has been conclusively debated while Twelve (12) are pending.
Hon. Dajoh also disclosed that, the House received and deliberated on seventeen (17) substantive motions and adopted thirty-one (31) major Resolutions during the period.
He revealed that, the House also received Seven (7) major communications including requests to revised the 2024 Supplementary Budget and confirm Mr. Governor’s Nominees for appointment as Chairman and Members of the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission.
The Speaker acknowledged the support and commitment of members and staff to the progress of the Tenth Assembly, noting that it was evident in the quality of Reports, Bills and Motions debated on the floor of the House.
He described members as partners in progress as proven through their contributions and encouraged them to redouble their efforts to ensure more legislative outputs when they resume from recess in January 2025.
It could be recalled that, Benue State Governor during the recent presentation of the 2025 Budget to the House noted that, the work done at the Assembly Complex was at Eighty Per Cent (80%) and assured that the ongoing renovation and remodeling work will be completed this year, 2025.
