The JS Tarka Stadium Gboko is to be upgraded to modern standards as soon as work on the Aper Aku Stadium is completed.
The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia disclosed this Saturday at the JS Tarka Stadium while speaking shortly after the final match of the 2024 edition of the Governor’s Cup Football Competition between Vandeikya and Agatu Local Government Areas.
The Governor who commended those who were saddled with the responsibility of organizing the competition, noted the skills displayed by the players and assured that his administration will do everything possible to return the lost glory of Benue State in the area of sports, particularly football.
While commending the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty, Prof James Ayatse as well as other key government functionaries for turning out to cheer the boys, Governor Alia also expressed appreciation to the President, Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau for donating the trophies to be presented to winners of the competition.
Apart from the prizes presented to the winners of the competition, they also received cash gifts from the Governor.
In the male category, Vandeikya, Agatu, Katsina-Ala and Apa local government areas emerged 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions getting cash donations of three million naira, two million naira, one million, six hundred thousand naira and one million naira respectively.
In the female category, Katsina-Ala, Gwer West, Ogbadibo and Vandeikya local government areas emerged 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions getting cash donations of two million, one hundred thousand naira, one million, eight hundred thousand naira, one million, six hundred thousand naira and one million naira respectively.
