Preparations for 2025 NSF have begun- Dr Nongu

The Director of Sports, Benue State Sports Council BSSC, Dr Philip Nongu has said preparations have begun for the 2025 National Sports Festival NSF scheduled for May, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Dr Nongu disclosed this to a battery of sports journalists on Saturday, in Naka, Gwer- West Local Government Area of Benue State.

He explained that, “we have already started preparations for the 2025 NSF which is scheduled for May, this year. There is no time and we are now in January, so I have directed that all the coaches should go to the grassroots and start bringing these players who have already been identified, so that we will prepare them towards that. I am hoping that this year is going to be a very big year in sports, in Benue State”.

The Director of Sports who pointed out some of the achievements that were recorded in sports by the BSSC in 2024 including, winning 4 Silver and 7 Bronze medals at the last National Sports Festival NSF held in Asaba, Delta State and were also able to attend some of the national tourneys in Volleyball and Handball where they performed very well, averred that, “achievements they say; is a good yardstick for measuring a degree of success, registrable by any activity and organisation on individual and without achievements, you can not be measured”.

Dr Nongu expressed optimism that the aim of reviving the Governor Cup competition would be achieved afterwhich he reminded that, “you are all aware that the competition has not been staged for about 8 years, so the final that was played at the JS Tarka Stadium Gboko was glamorous because right from the preliminary stage, there was no hitch up to the final”

“The crowd that I saw on the day of the final of the competition at the JS Tarka Stadium Gboko, marvelled me and I flashed back to when I was the Sports Secretary of the Gboko Local Government Area in 1990, when the BCC Lions FC of Gboko was playing. I am hoping that subsequent editions of the competition will be very good and we will achieve what we are aiming at in the Governor Cup in Benue State”.
