The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Danladi Jatau has promised to give full support to Nasarawa State University, Keffi ( NSUK) to ensure it becomes one of the best institutions in the country.
He gave the assurance while receiving the management of the University led by its Vice Chancellor ( VC), Prof Sada’atu Liman who were on a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Lafia.
The Speaker said, the Assembly under his leadership was committed to supporting the university to enable it address the challenges facing it so as to help improve the standards of education.
“We are proud of the university. We are proud of what you people are doing therefore, we would discuss the challenges facing the university to improve its standard.
“I want to assure you of our support for improved standards of education in the school. The school is our pride and we will give it all the attention it deserves” he said.
He, therefore commended the management of the university for their efforts in developing the University and called for its sustenance.
Earlier, the VC of NSUK, Prof Sada’atu said funding was the major issue affecting the university.
“Funding remains our major challenge. The funding coming from the state is falling short.
” We have to augment to pay salaries, that is why we decided to approach the Assembly to seek for assistance” she said.
Prof Sa’adatu said the university’s liability needs urgent attention and sued for the state government’s intervention.
The Voice reports that the visit had in attendance, the Chairman, House Committee on Education and member representing Nasarawa Eggon West constituency, Hon Abel Bala, members of the House Committee on Education as well as the management of the institution.
