In a significant operation, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Directorate have intercepted eight trucks conveying suspected illegal solid minerals in Benue State.
The interception, which took place at Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of state, is part of the EFCC’s efforts to combat illegal mining activities and related economic crimes in Nigeria.
According to Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media & Publicity, the trucks were conveying solid minerals suspected to be fluorite and iron stones, allegedly mined from illegal mining sites in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Oyewale stated that the suspects involved in the illegal mining and transportation of the minerals would soon be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
“The EFCC is committed to tackling economic crimes, including illegal mining, and will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice,” Oyewale said.
