The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has stressed the importance of collaboration between army commanders and stakeholders in their respective domains to effectively tackle insecurity.
Speaking at the First Senior Command and Leadership Seminar in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Oluyede, represented by Major General Abubakar Sadiq Ndalolo, emphasised that building on existing collaborations with stakeholders like security agencies, civil society organizations, and traditional institutions was crucial in addressing prevailing security threats.
He advised participants at the seminar not to relent, as security challenges are dynamic and require evolving solutions.
“These stakeholders are pivotal to addressing the prevailing security threats within your areas of responsibility.
“It is also pertinent that you strategically apply situational awareness and strategic communication skills when engaging these stakeholders, so that you can foster mutual respect and build teamwork.
” This integrated approach is not only key to addressing our immediate security threats but can also contribute significantly to long-term national stability,” he said.
On his part, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, commended the Nigerian Army for staging the seminar, urging participants to utilise the opportunity to share experiences and enhance operational-level command and leadership skills.
“I commend the Nigerian Army for staging this all-important seminar aimed at equipping senior commanders and senior military leaders with requisite skills and competencies for enhanced performance amidst the contemporary security atmosphere in the country.
“I therefore call on all participants to pay special attention and utilize the opportunity availed by the seminar to share experiences, appraise, and recommend appropriate measures in enhancing operational-level command and leadership skills in the joint security environment,” Sule said.
Earlier, the Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Major General Hilary Nzan, said the lectures for the seminar were carefully selected and designed to sensitise commanders on the ongoing transformation and innovation efforts of the Nigerian Army.
He added that the seminar was also meant to enlighten senior commanders on the intricacies and responsibilities of command in a joint environment and promote critical thinking ability among senior-level commanders in addressing complex operational challenges.
