The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has embarked on a mission to restore, uplift, and transform the state into one of the most progressive and prosperous in Nigeria. His leadership has already made a noticeable impact, and his efforts to improve the infrastructure, economy, and security in Benue have been both bold and effective. Despite only being in office for less than two years, Governor Alia has already proven his dedication to the people of Benue, consistently working towards creating a state that thrives for the benefit of all its residents.
A key area where Governor Alia has demonstrated remarkable progress is in the development of roads across the state. The infrastructure within Benue has long been a challenge, but the governor has been proactive in addressing this issue. Roads in several major towns, including Makurdi, Adikpo, Gboko, Otukpo, and many other locations, have seen significant upgrades, with new roads being constructed and old ones being rehabilitated. These improvements are already making it much easier for people to travel across the state, boosting connectivity, enhancing trade, and improving access to various regions within Benue.
In addition to the roadworks, the governor is overseeing the construction of two important flyovers at major traffic junctions in the state. One flyover is located at High Level, and the other at Gyado Junction in Gboko. These flyovers, which are nearing completion, will go a long way in alleviating traffic congestion in these busy areas. Their completion will not only improve the flow of traffic but also contribute to the overall beautification of the state, making Benue a more attractive and efficient place for residents and visitors alike. These projects are just a small glimpse of the governor’s ongoing commitment to modernizing the state’s infrastructure and ensuring that Benue’s development keeps pace with growing demands.
Another area where Governor Alia has shown significant concern and leadership is in addressing the welfare of state government workers. One of his major achievements so far has been the clearing of long-standing arrears owed to public sector employees. These arrears had been a burden for many workers in the state, creating financial strain for their families and affecting overall morale within the workforce. Governor Alia’s intervention to clear these debts has been widely applauded by workers and has helped restore confidence in the state’s administration.
Furthermore, the governor has made public promises to continue addressing issues related to workers’ welfare, with a firm commitment to ensuring that employees receive their salaries on time, saying the state government fulfills its financial obligations to its workforce.
Governor Alia’s leadership has also placed a significant focus on revitalizing agriculture, which is the backbone of Benue’s economy. Under his administration, there has been a clear push to encourage agricultural activities by offering support and incentives to farmers. Governor Alia understands the critical role that agriculture plays in the lives of the people in Benue and is working tirelessly to improve farming conditions across the state. His administration has introduced several initiatives aimed at easing the burden on farmers, such as providing access to farming tools, fertilizers, and improved seeds. By encouraging agricultural activities, the governor hopes to boost food production, improve the livelihoods of farmers, and contribute to the overall economic growth of the state. Benue, like many other states in Nigeria, has faced security challenges in recent years, including conflicts between farmers and herders, as well as other forms of crime. However, the “ANYAM NYOR” have been making significant strides in improving security across the state. Their presence has helped to reduce crime rates, and they have proven to be an effective force in tackling insecurity, ensuring that residents can go about their daily lives without fear of harm. This security initiative has been widely praised by the people of Benue, as it has brought much-needed peace and stability to the state. Alia’s time in office, though relatively short, has already been marked by numerous achievements aimed at improving the lives of the people of Benue. From significant infrastructural upgrades, such as roads and flyovers, to the clearing of workers’ arrears and support for farmers, the governor has demonstrated a hands-on and proactive approach to governance.
