The Benue State House of Assembly has summoned the leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Benue State Branch, to appear before its plenary session.
This move is aimed at addressing the ongoing strike by judiciary workers, which has paralysed court activities in the state since December 6, 2024.
Hon Alfred Emberga, the Majority Deputy Whip and Member Representing Makurdi North State Constituency, moved the motion during the Friday plenary session at the Hearing Hall, Benue State House of Assembly, Makurdi.
Emberga expressed concern that the continued strike may lead to the death of many prison inmates awaiting trial, stating, “If this strike continues, it may lead to the death of many prison inmates who hope to regain their freedom during this period.”
Hon Thomas Dugeri, Member Representing Kwande West, seconded the motion, lamenting the increase in crime waves in the state due to the strike.
He stated that the appearance of the union’s leadership would enable the House to understand the union’s grievances.
The Speaker of the House , Hon Hyacinth Dajoh directed the Clerk of the House, Mr John Hwande, to communicate with the union, paving the way for a potential resolution to the ongoing strike.
