The Executive Chairman, Benue State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, Dr. Grace Adagba has requested training for SUBEB staff on e-procurement to enhance efficiency in procurement procedures.
Dr. Adagba made the request Thursday when she paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Bureau for Public Procurement BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun in Abuja.
The Board’s Information Officer, Emmanuella Akase in a statement on Friday stated that, Dr Adagba emphasized the need for procurement policies that reflect local realities, considering the unique challenges of each state. While acknowledging the existing collaboration between Benue SUBEB and BPP, she sought to discuss ways to prioritize indigenous contractors.
In his response, Dr. Adedokun disclosed that the BPP is working with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) to develop a community-based procurement system. He said the initiative aims to support local contractors and improve transparency and efficiency in public procurement.
He also highlighted the critical role of basic education in national development and the importance of addressing the Out-of-School Children phenomenon. He reaffirmed the BPP’s commitment to collaborating with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and all 36 SUBEBs nationwide to promote quality education.
The BPP Boss commended Governor Alia for his dedication to advancing basic education and driving development in Benue State. He encouraged the state to establish a model procurement system that other states could emulate.
