The Benue State House of Assembly has summoned the Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Urban Development, Honourable Tiza Imojime, to provide justifiable reasons for the N68,329,000,000 allocated for the dualization of the Wurukum to Nigerian Air Force Base road in Makurdi.
Imojime is expected to appear before the House on Friday, April 4, 2025, alongside the Director-General of the Benue State Procurement Commission, the Director-General of the Bureau for Special Projects, and the contractor handling the project.
The decision was made during the House’s Wednesday plenary session, where Member representing Okpokwu State Constituency, Hon. Anthony Agom, moved a motion of urgent public importance. Agom expressed concerns over the massive funding allocated for the project, which has attracted public criticism.
Seconding the motion, Hon. Alfred Emberga, representing Makurdi North State Constituency, expressed concerns over the substantial amount approved for the road dualization project, emphasizing the need for transparency. He urged the House to summon all parties involved to provide detailed explanations for the project’s high cost.
The House also resolved that the State Commissioner for Finance should not release funds to the contractor until the investigation is concluded.
Additionally, the House summoned the Special Adviser to the Governor on Bureau for Local Government, Security, and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Director-General of Homeland Security, and some local government chairmen to appear before the House to explain their efforts in addressing insecurity in their areas and the state respectively.
The Minority Leader, Hon. Micheal Audu, raised concerns over reported cases of killings and kidnappings by armed Fulani herdsmen and bandits in Otukpo and other local government areas in the state.
The Speaker, Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh, who presided over Wednesday’s plenary session, instructed the Clerk, Mr. John Hwande to notify and collaborate with all relevant officials regarding the matter at hand.
