…identifies Nigeria’s immediate need
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has identified unity and harmony as the basic element that is needed in Nigeria currently.
The Governor singled out this element while receiving the Torch of Unity ahead of the National Sports Festival holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He said Nigerians need to come together and be united as a people to enjoy peace, harmony and friendship.
According to him, Nasarawa State is currently experiencing such togetherness and unity and Nigerians should embrace it because it is most desirable in the present circumstances.
“We are enjoying peace, harmony, friendship, and unity in Nasarawa State, and that’s what this event signifies.”
“It’s for us to come together and be united as a people. That’s what Nigeria needs right now,” he said.
The Governor expressed appreciation for the delegation from the federal government and thanked President Bola Tinubu and the Sports Federation for ensuring the commencement of the National Sports Festival as well as facilitating the participation of the North Central region.
While acknowledging the prayers for the full involvement of the State in the festival, the Governor said, “We’re not going to participate in every sport but we will focus on our competitive advantage and areas where we are strong”.
Earlier, Mrs Ikana Mbora, leader of the delegation from the National Sport Commission, presented the Torch of Unity to Governor Sule and described it as a symbolic gesture embodying the unifying power of sports.
Mrs Mbora said the torch of unity is taken around the federation to invite participation in the national sports festival.
“We normally begin with the Torch of Unity to show that sports unify us and also, as an invitation to participate in the National Sports Festival.
“We have already visited several states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue, and will head to Plateau State to conclude the North Central Zone before moving to subsequent zones,” she added.
She expressed gratitude for the hospitality and sued for sustained support, saying, “We hope to see Nasarawa State do well during the games in Abeokuta, Ogun State.”
