The Convener of One Benue, Lawrence Kyuka, has emphasized the importance of unity and peace in Benue State, citing the current security challenges as a pressing concern. According to Kyuka, the One Benue project is designed to bring the state together, promoting a singular consciousness and showcasing the state’s peaceful nature to the world.
Kyuka made this known Wednesday during a press briefing at the NUJ House, Makurdi.
He disclosed that a concert and exhibition, being organized by One Benue, scheduled to hold from April 18th to 21st, 2025 at the IBB Square, will provide a platform for young entrepreneurs to showcase their talents and promote Benue’s rich cultural heritage, adding that the event aims to open Benue to the world, highlighting its potential and opportunities.
The Convener explained that the One Benue project is a collaborative effort, partnering with local governments, traditional rulers, the political class, security agencies, and the business community.
Kyuka noted that the One Benue initiative acknowledges the current security challenges in the state, describing them as an infiltration that requires collective action. “By engaging stakeholders and promoting unity, the project’s aim to create a more secure and peaceful environment for the people of Benue State
He highlighted the vital role of the press in promoting the One Benue project, stating that their support will help take the initiative to the next level. “By working together, we hope to achieve our goal of unity and peace in Benue State”
Coordinator, One Benue, Romeo Nyamatsa highlighted that Benue State is currently facing significant divisions, hindering its development and impacting its citizens. He emphasized the need for collective effort and support to promote unity and drive the state’s progress.
Nyamatsa’s concern echoes the sentiments of many, as insecurity and divisions have taken a toll on the state’s economy and food security, with farmers facing threats and supply chains being disrupted. This unity-driven initiative aims to address such pressing issues and foster a more cohesive and prosperous Benue State
Also speaking, the project’s technical partner, Josef Igomu who is also an artist, emphasized the role of entertainment in conveying important messages, particularly in promoting unity and peace. He said “We will also use our platform to sensitize our youths on the need to preach and promote peace at all times
