Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has imposed a temporary restriction on the movement of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in Minna, the state capital, from 6pm to 6am. This decision was announced at a high-level security meeting held on Tuesday at the Government House, attended by traditional title holders in the Minna Emirate and heads of security agencies.
Governor Bago explained that the measure, exempting medical emergencies, aims to address the growing security challenges in the state capital. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate criminal activities and is committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The Governor also warned traditional leaders to properly document individuals residing in their domains, cautioning that any house found harboring criminals will be demolished, and buildings used for selling hard drugs will be destroyed. He directed security agencies to crack down on criminals, their hideouts, and cartels.
Governor Bago further urged parents to warn their children against engaging in violent activities, warning that anyone caught will face prosecution.
He emphasized that the state government will maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards thuggery and lawlessness while calling on all stakeholders to collaborate in tackling insecurity, emphasizing that governance is a collective responsibility.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba; Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahaho, district, village, and ward heads, as well as security chiefs in the state.
