Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has described his working relationship with his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, as flawless and pleasant. The Governor made this statement while addressing journalists shortly after the Workers’ Day celebration in Minna.
“We are a team, and our focus is on achieving our goals. A New Niger is possible,” he said, acknowledging the sacrifices and perseverance of workers in the state.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Niger State Council, Comrade Abdulkareem Lafene, represented by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) State Chairman, Ibrahim Gana, commended the Governor for his efforts in improving workers’ welfare. These efforts include implementing the N80,000 Niger State minimum wage, paying wage awards, resuming gratuity payments, and settling the 2019 Annual Leave Grant for state workers.
The TUC Chairman announced that Organised Labour has unanimously agreed to confer the prestigious Workers Hero Award on the Governor in recognition of his achievements. He also urged the government to address some of the underlying challenges faced by civil servants in the state.
Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, congratulated the workers and called for more support for the Governor, while the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, assured the assembly’s support for civil servants in the state and commended the Governor for the recent recruitment of youths into the Niger State Civil Service.
