The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Honourable Hyacinth Dajoh, has commended Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia’s administration for mobilizing the contractor handling the Assembly’s renovation and remodeling, Garawa Construction Company Limited, to the site.
Hon. Dajoh made this known in an address marking the end of the Second Legislative Session (2024-2025) of the Tenth Assembly during Tuesday’s Plenary at the Hearing Hall, Benue State House of Assembly, Makurdi.
The Speaker highlighted the House’s achievements during the session, including receiving 36 bills, passing 16 into law, and adopting 138 major resolutions. He also noted that the House received and deliberated on 52 substantive motions and 35 reports.
Notable among the laws passed are the Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University Law, 2025 and the Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ihugh Law, 2025. The Speaker emphasized that these laws will cater to the tertiary education needs of the people and provide employment opportunities.
He noted that the House received (7) seven major communications, including the confirmation of nominees for the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission and a supplementary budget for BSIEC to conduct local government elections. He emphasized that the latter was a significant exercise, affirming the autonomy of local governments in the state.
The Speaker highlighted the House’s efforts in manpower development, noting that it had sponsored Honourable Members and staff to parliamentary networking and training programs both locally and internationally, which would be beneficial to the participants
Hon. Dajoh also stated that about ten (10) motions were directed at finding solutions to insecurity in Benue State and expressed hope that the House would continue to collaborate with the Executive Arm of Government to find lasting solutions to sponsored violence against Benue citizens.
The Speaker announced that the Third Session of the Tenth Assembly would commence on June 5, 2025, and that the House would reconvene from recess on July 8, 2025, after granting the contractor 60 days to complete the Assembly Complex renovation.
