Ogun 2025: Nasarawa  Athletes begin  training  

The Nasarawa State government has opened a training camp for its athletes in preparation for the 2025 National Youth Festival holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The state’s contingent will participate in various sporting events, including Judo, Karate, Chess, Scrabble, Darts, Volleyball, Hockey, Taekwondo, and athletics. 

Declaring the camp opened, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development,  Hon Kwanta Yakubu  charged the athletes to be of good conduct all through the games.

“I want you to conduct yourself, organise yourself, and adhere strictly to the rules that guide the camp.

 “Your coaches are there who will be transmitting some directives from the ministry to guide you and some instructors will be coming to further guide you and organise you so that we will have more medals than ever by the grace of God”, he said.

Yakubu appreciated Governor Abdullah Sule for granting approval for the training and participation in the National Sports Festival and thanked  the management team of the ministry, particularly the Permanent Secretary, Dr Adamu Alhassan, for their dedication and hard work in organising the camp.

 He also commended the coaches for their immediate response and the athletes for their high spirits.

Also speaking,  Coach Bashir Bassey  expressed gratitude to the state government for their efforts in making the camp a reality.

 “Thank you for your efforts in making sure that this camp becomes a reality.

“We promise to reciprocate your efforts in putting us in camp by winning nothing more than gold. Second position should be gold, third position should be gold – we really appreciate your efforts”, he said.

The Captain of the State, Beauty Timothy also  promised to make the state proud saying, ” we promise by God’s grace, it’s not our power, but by God’s grace and the efforts that you people put together to see us, by God’s grace we will not disappoint you people”.
