Team Nasarawa has won its first Gold Medal in Taekwondo Pomsea courtesy of Elijah Agada at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Agada emerged victorious in the Pomsae Individual Taekwondo event, defeating his Ogun State opponent, Afeez Salaudeen.
In an interview with The Voice, Agada expressed his gratitude to God for the win, saying, “The game was tough, but God came through for me, so I’m grateful.
“I have other games, and my plan is to keep doing what I’ve been doing”, he said
The coach of Team Nasarawa for Taekwondo, Lois Jerry, was overjoyed by the win, stating, “I was very excited, jumping and rolling on the mat after the gold medal was won. We still have other games, and we’re well-prepared despite the challenges.”
Agada’s gold medal marks a significant improvement from the bronze medal he won in the last edition.
Meanwhile, Martina Faga, another Nasarawa athlete, defeated her opponent from Taraba State 2-0 in her first game ( Ayo trado- Sport) .
According to her, she is poised to face stiff competition in the upcoming matches.
In Hockey, Team Nasarawa (Female) will start their game in Group ‘A’ against Imo, Delta, and Plateau on Tuesday, hoping to improve the state’s medal count.
Team Nasarawa is currently participating in 18 sports out of the 38 scheduled for the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games.”
The team’s first gold medal marks a promising start to the competition.
