Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has expressed deep sadness over the sudden passing of Chief Senator Joseph Iorshagher Akaagerger, whose demise took place on Thursday, May 15th, 2025, at the age of 69 years.
The Governor in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, described the retired Lieutenant Colonel Akaagerger, who served as a Military Administrator of Katsina State, as a patriotic Nigerian, and as one who gave the nation and Benue State his very best during his time.
Governor Alia in the statement adds that as a lawmaker and Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District ( Zone A), the late Senator equally proved his quality in politics, business, community service and philanthropy.
He further regrets Akaagerger’s sad demise, saying the state will miss his contributions, particularly his counsel and engagements as an elder statesman and prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Elders Forum in the state all of which were geared towards the growth and development of the State.
While praying God to console his immediate family, his associates, the entire people of Benue State and Nigeria as a whole, urging them to take comfort in the legacies he left behind and build on it to honour his memory, the Governor equally prays God to grant the Late Senator eternal rest.
The late Chief Senator Joseph Iorshagher Akaagerger was the Military Administrator of Katsina State, Nigeria from August 1998 to 29 May 1999.
After retirement from the military, he joined politics during the country’s return to democracy, and was elected to the Senate representing Benue North-East in April 2007.
