Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has registered with the Niger State Contributory Health Scheme, known as NiCARE. The registration was conducted by the Agency’s Executive Secretary, Sulayman Abubakar, at the Council Chamber of Government House in Minna on Monday.
Performing the ceremony, Abubakar emphasized the scheme’s importance and benefits, encouraging individuals, particularly those in the formal sector, to take advantage of it.
The Governor commended Abubakar for transforming the Agency and increasing enrollment numbers. He urged stakeholders to take ownership of the scheme, stressing that public trust is public wealth.
Niger State Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, and Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, also registered with the scheme.
In a preceding PowerPoint presentation, Sulayman Abubakar highlighted the Agency’s achievements since the current administration began. These accomplishments according to him, include introducing a productivity award system that recognized three diligent staff members, revising operational guidelines that led to an increase in directorates from 5 to 6, and implementing an equity fund, private sector plan, and incentive system.
Abubakar attributed the significant growth in enrollment from 53,000 to 139,000, representing over 160% increase, to the Governor’s political will and support for NiCARE.
