Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has signed into law five bills passed by the State Assembly, aimed at enhancing the state’s justice system, education, healthcare, water management, and transportation sectors.
The Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Nasiru Mua’zu, announced this during a press briefing at the Government House on Wednesday, alongside Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Mairo Mohammed Mann.
Mua’zu stated that the laws include the Penal Code Law, which penalizes crimes and related offenses.The Penal Code Law, he noted, represents an innovative approach, aligning with the state’s criminal justice framework.”
Another law repeals the Niger State College of Education Law of 2011 and re-enacts the Niger State College of Education Minna (Re-establishment) Law, renaming it Dr. Umaru Sanda Ahmadu College of Education, Minna.
Additionally, the governor signed into law a bill providing for the establishment of an agency responsible for the registration and regulation of private health facilities in Niger State.
Other laws include the Niger State Water User Association Law 2025, which regulates water sources and ensures their safety, and the Niger State Rail-Line Corporation Law 2025, which establishes the corporation and addresses related matters.
The Commissioner stated that the Governor’s decision to sign the bills into law is paramount in improving the lives of Niger State residents, emphasizing that the laws are crucial to the state’s development. He advised stakeholders to embrace positive change.
