Team Nasarawa has recorded additional 5 medals at the ongoing 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival(NSF) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Charles Chiemerie Obayi won a silver medal in the -85kg kung fu event, while Owulama Akolo got a bronze in kung fu in the -90kg category.
The Voice had reported that Agada Elijah won a gold medal in the Men’s Taekwondo Poomsae Individual Demonstration event during the early stages of the games.
As a boost to the State’s rating, Ovey Haruna won a bronze medal in the Men’s -65kg Kung-Fu Wushu event. Haruna lost his semi-final fight against his Akwa Ibom State opponent, David Anthony Idio, 13-14.
Also, the captain of Team Nasarawa State contingents, Beauty Timothy, won a bronze medal in the -52kg Kung-fu event, and Somishola Popoola also won a bronze medal in Kung Fu -48kg.
A keenly contested fidht between Godwin Favour of Team Nasarawa and Ameachi Favour of Team Bayelsa also gave Team Nasarawa an edge as Godwin Favour beat her opponent 4-1 in the first round and pushed forward to complete her winning streak by 4-2 in the second round, pushing her to play in the third round.
Earlier in the male singles, Sani Yau of Team Nasarawa and Ikechukwu Emmanuel of Team Delta played two sets each, and it ended in favor of Team Delta by 4-2, 4-2 against Team Nasarawa, just as Abdusallami Mohammed of Team Nasarawa lost out to Abu Akanis of Team Rivers by 4-2.
In weightlifting, all five athletes under coach Rabiu Ibrahim of Team Nasarawa – Mohd Shuaibu, Samson Adah (55kg each), Timi Eze (102kg category), Idris Mohd Husseini Mohd (61kg) lost out.
Martina Faga, who participated in Trado-sport, joined the losers. Ayo also lost, while Benard Sunday won his preliminary round in the 65kg category against his Kwara opponent and will face Bayelsa.
In golf, in the male category, Team Nasarawa has been drawn in Stableford Amateur men against Kwara, and in Eclectic ball, the Lafia-based side will take on Kwara, Akwa Ibom, and Plateau.
In the female category, Nasarawa will confront Bayelsa, Lagos, Kano, and Katsina.
So far, Team Nasarawa, which registered for 18 sports out of the 38 sports at the 22nd Edition of the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has won Six medals, including a gold, a silver, and four bronze medals.
