Team Nasarawa has continued to climb on the medals table at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The team has made notable achievements in wrestling, judo, and para-athletics.
Two hockey players, Rejoice Sunday and Felicia Mathias, were also invited to join the national team, a testament to the team’s outstanding performance.
In wrestling, Titkuromi Christopher won a silver medal in the 57kg male category, losing to Olympic champion Ebikewenemo from Bayelsa State.
However, Christopher’s impressive performance, including a 10-0 win over his Enugu opponent excited the Team and heightened their morale.
Richard Ebidou also won a bronze medal in the 70kg category, beating his Delta counterpart.
In judo, Madu Daniel secured a bronze medal in the 100kg category. Meanwhile, Muawiyah Aliyu claimed a bronze medal in para-athletics, showcasing his skills on the track.
Although Team Nasarawa’s hockey team was eliminated from the competition, they received two special awards for having the youngest players and demonstrating fair play.
The team’s coach, Zainab, expressed gratitude to the organising committee for the recognition.
Largely, Team Ogun emerged victorious in the football finals, thrashing Team Kwara 4-1 while in the female category, Team Delta defeated Team Invited Junior Athletics (IJA) 1-0.
Relatedly, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) held a novelty football match, which ended 1-0 in favor of the Team Northern SWAN.
Comrade Smah George, Nasarawa State SWAN Chairman, served as the coach for Team Northern SWAN.
So far, Team Nasarawa has secured 15 medals, including 1 gold, 2 silver, and 12 bronze while Team Delta currently tops the medals table.
