A renowned humanitarian and Catholic monk, Rev. Fr. Prof. Elias Gbishe, has been appointed National Representative of the United Nations Peace Ambassadors Foundation (UNPAF) in Nigeria. This was made known in an official appointment letter signed by His Excellency Amb. Dr. Kingsley Osai, Chairman of UNPAF, and made available to The Voice in Makurdi.
According to the letter, Amb. Osai expressed confidence in Fr. Gbishe’s ability to drive the organization’s vision forward. “We believe in your leadership to promote and deepen the mission of global peace in line with the goals of the United Nations,” the letter stated.
The appointee, who is also the founder of Benedictine Schools, will coordinate peace-building initiatives across 36 states, promoting intercultural dialogue and conflict resolution. His responsibilities will include organizing peace-focused events, promoting intercultural dialogue, and advancing grassroots conflict resolution efforts in alignment with the foundation’s global mission. Fr. Gbishe, an indigene of Benue State, is recognized for his long-standing commitment to humanitarian service, both locally and globally. His schools provide free and affordable education to the poor and vulnerable children in the country.
The UNPAF is an international non-governmental organization committed to fostering peace, diplomacy, and conflict resolution around the world. The organization works closely with both local and global stakeholders to uphold the principles of human rights and social justice. The foundation aligns its work with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which provides online and offline initiatives that empower individuals and communities to become agents of peace.
Some of the key programs of UNPAF include global peace education, community engagement, youth empowerment, and humanitarian support, among others.
