The Nasarawa State Government has carried out a feasibility study for the construction of a mini-stadium in Wamba Local Government Area of the state.
The feasibility study marks another milestone in the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule and his commitment to sports development in the state.
These were the words of the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Yakubu Kwanta, when he led the team on the feasibility study to Wamba LGA on Wednesday.
While speaking, the Commissioner said the proposed site for the construction of the mini-stadium was certified conducive by technical officers from the State Ministry of Works and Housing .
According to him, the project was an indication of Governor Sule’s commitment to establishing a stadium in every zone of the state which is expected to boost sports development and provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents.
Hon Kwanta noted that the Wamba stadium was highly strategic and will not only benefit the local community but also serve as a standard venue for league games, attracting participants from across the North Central region.
“We have since visited Toto, Doma, Awe, and Akwanga with the view to ensuring that we have mini stadia across the state.
“Today is the turn of Wamba LGA, and Governor Sule has given us the directive to meet with the Chairman of Wamba and the Paramount Ruler of Wamba Traditional Council, to allocate a land that will enable us establish a mini stadium in the area.
“The allocated site has been deemed conducive by technical officers from the Ministry of Works, and construction is expected to commence soon,” he said.
He, therefore, appreciated Governor Sule for prioritising sports development in the State even as he thanked the paramount ruler of Wamba, the “Oriye Rindre”, His Royal Highness, Lawal Musa Nagogo for allocating the land for the construction of the mini studium in the area.
On his part , the Chairman of Wamba LGA Hon Ezekiel Jagga, expressed gratitude to Governor Sule and the Commissioner for the project and assured of cooperation with the state government to ensure successful construction and maintenance of the facility.
“We want to say thank you to our Governor for this gigantic project.
“We assure that we will cooperate with the state government to ensure that this project is constructed and commissioned at the appropriate time,” he said.
In an interview with The Voice, the technical officer who is the Assistant Director, Public Buildings, Abubakar Elayo said the site was assessed and deemed conducive for the project.
He stated that the mini-stadium will feature a football pitch, track events facilities, and auxiliary amenities such as basketball and handball courts among others.
Earlier during a courtesy on the Oriye Rindre”, HRH Nagogo donated a piece of land for siting of the project and lauded the governor’s developmental initiatives especially in the sporting sector.
He also appealed for the sustenance of such development initiatives.
The Voice reports that the feasibility team was led by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Kwanta alongside the Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Alhassan; Director of Facilities and Stadia Management, Yusuf Ahmad, and Lawrence Shammah, Director of Sports Organising, among others.
