Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has directed the Ministry of Lands and Survey to issue a Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) to the Federal Government for the commencement of reconstruction of Mokwa flood victim houses.
The Governor stated this on Monday when he led a delegation of the state government team on a sympathy visit to the Mokwa flood victims.
Umaru Bago, during the visit, pledged the sum of one billion naira to ensure the victims have temporary accommodation before the Federal Government’s resettlement homes are completed, assuring them of leaving the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
The state government also awarded a 7 billion naira contract for the construction of a 12km road project, including four bridges, from Mokwa to Rabbah, to commence immediately.
Additionally, the State Government donated 50 trucks of assorted grains, comprising ten trucks each of rice, beans, millets, maize, and sorghum, to cushion the effects of the flood on the victims.
While commiserating with the victims, the Governor promised that all donations would be judiciously distributed through a committee headed by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba. He appreciated the Federal Government, donor partners, and individuals who have supported the affected victims and prayed for the repose of those who lost their lives.
Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, sympathized with the people of Mokwa and encouraged them to remain steadfast. The Etsu Nupe, Alh. Yahaya Abubakar, and former Deputy Governor Alh. Mohammed Ahmed Ketso commended the Governor’s kindness and appreciated the support from donors.
A symbolic distribution of relief items was made to selected households, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting the affected communities.
