…As Nasarawa Gov Donates N150 Million
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has assured his Nasarawa counterpart, Governor Abdullahi Sule, of continuous partnership to tackle insecurity along their shared borders.
This assurance was made during Governor Sule’s condolences visit to Governor Alia at Government House in Makurdi.
Represented by his Deputy, Barrister Sam Ode, Governor Alia emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address security challenges effectively and bring perpetrators to justice. He stressed the importance of vigilance to prevent external actors from disrupting peace between the two states.
Governor Alia expressed appreciation for Governor Sule’s consistent support, recalling the Nasarawa State delegation’s visit during conflicts in Ukum Local Government. He acknowledged the recent unfortunate events that resulted in loss of lives and property, potentially straining the cordial relationship between the two states.
“We are a people in grief. We are a people in mourning. We are saddened by the events of the last few days. Our hearts are bleeding,” Governor Alia said.
He emphasized the need for cooperation to defeat agents of darkness disrupting peace and appreciated the brotherly relationship between the people of Nasarawa and Benue.
Governor Alia thanked Governor Sule for the Nasarawa State Government’s donation of N150 million to alleviate the crisis’s impact.
Earlier, Governor Abdullahi Sule condoled with Governor Alia over the weekend’s attacks in Yelewata, a border community, which led to loss of lives and property. He condemned the incident and noted that some individuals from neighboring communities in Nasarawa had sought safety.
Governor Sule encouraged Governor Alia to remain steadfast in providing quality leadership despite negative comments. He reported that arrests had been made by Nasarawa’s security agencies and urged criminals to cease violent activities.
He assured that various measures would be employed to apprehend perpetrators and bring them to justice.
