The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for condoling with the people and government of Benue State over the recent killings of unarmed civilians in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area.
In a press statement endorsed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Segun Imohiosen on Thursday, the Office of the SGF commended President Tinubu’s goodwill in identifying with the victims and the citizens of Benue State.
The statement reads: “The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, has expressed profound appreciation to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his timely visit to Benue State despite his tight schedules, assuring that he will work with all key stakeholders to bring lasting peace to the state in line with his directives.”
SGF Akume commended the President’s courageous initiative to witness firsthand the incessant conflicts faced by the state and reaffirm the government’s dedication to resolving the ongoing conflicts.
During his visit, the President engaged with key stakeholders in a town hall meeting, where crucial matters toward ending the lingering killings were discussed to restore peace in the state. The President directed the SGF to coordinate the formation of a committee comprising former governors, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to fast-track the process of restoring peace.
Senator Akume emphasized that achieving sustainable peace requires a united effort and assured the President of his commitment to working with all stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive strategies that address root causes, promote reconciliation, and foster long-term peace and stability in the state.
