The Niger State Government has warned victims who have received relief items and cash donations to vacate the Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) camp and start anew. Governor Umaru Bago demonstrated his commitment to supporting flood victims by approving and releasing N1 billion for disbursement.
Through his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, who is the Chairman of the Committee on Distribution of Items for Mokwa Flood Victims, the Governor stated that each of the 458 affected households would receive N1 million and 25 bags of assorted grains. Additionally, the next of kin of deceased persons would each receive N1 million.
The Governor affirmed his administration’s relentless efforts to provide succor to the people of Mokwa, who suffered 208 deaths, 458 affected households, 3,534 displaced persons, and billions of Naira in property damage.
He further disclosed that each of the 232 destroyed shops would receive N500,000. He commended donors, security agencies, and cooperate organizations for their support.
The Chairman of Mokwa Local Government Council, Alhaji Abdullahi Muregi, appreciated the state government’s unwavering support.
Meanwhile, the Society for Family Health, through the State Ministry for Water Resources and Dams Development, donated 300 cartons of water purifiers to Mokwa flood victims to prevent waterborne diseases.The assorted grains included rice, millet, guinea corn, and maize
