The Rector of the College of Agriculture and Technology, Jalingo, Taraba State, Dr. Yakubu Ali Gargila, has commended Governor Agbu Kefas for declaring free education in the state. Dr. Gargila noted that the governor has taken bold steps to address the educational needs of all citizens through the declaration of free and compulsory education for all, despite the capital-intensive nature of the sector.
Speaking during the 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony of the college, the Rector emphasized that education eliminates poverty and ignorance among citizens and fosters prosperity and progress in every nation and society.
He disclosed that the polytechnic has been fully accredited and will soon benefit from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for rapid development and wealth creation for the students.
Dr. Gargila appealed to the state governor to provide operational vehicles as an immediate need of the institution.
While charging the newly admitted students to work hard in realizing their ambitions and to make the college community, family, and society proud, the Rector warned them to avoid criminal tendencies that would jeopardize their future.
A total of 922 students were matriculated for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking the highest number of students recorded since the inception of the college. Dr. Gargila attributed this to the governor’s education policy, which has made education more accessible.
