The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Plateau State Council has elected new officials to lead the association for the next three years. The election which was was held on Wednesday, saw the immediate past Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Grace Akwe Gotip of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), succeeding her former Chairperson, Mrs. Nene Dung.
Other elected officials include Mrs. Mwuase Adem of Radio Nigeria, Highland FM Jos, who was re-elected as Secretary; Esther Oyang Andrew of the State Information, as Deputy Secretary; Ivon Ishola of the Nigerian Standard newspapers, as Vice Chairperson; Miss Jembyen Zita of the Plateau Radio and Television Corporation (PRTVC), as Treasurer; Asile Abel of the Nigerian Tracker newspapers, as Auditor; and Patience Aliyu of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), as Financial Secretary.
The National Official of NAWOJ, Chizoba Ogbeche, who supervised the election, urged members to maintain professionalism in their dealings. The Plateau State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, charged the newly elected executives to involve members in their activities.
The Oath Commissioner, Barr. Lauretta Challa, admonished the NAWOJ officials to abide by their oath of office and be just to all.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Grace Akwe Gotip assured that her administration would be all-inclusive and pledged to galvanize support for capacity building of members and promote gender equality.
The Credentials Committee, led by Mrs. Lucy Chindaba, declared the election an affirmation, as all seven positions were unopposed and contestants met the required criteria. The election process was observed to be credible and peaceful.
