The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has donated relief materials to the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for distribution to victims of herdsmen attack in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area.
During the donation ceremony at SEMA Headquarters on Wednesday in Makurdi, N-HYPPADEC’s Acting Managing Director, Mr. Jimoh Haruna Gabi, expressed condolences to the state government over the attack, which resulted in loss of lives and property. He appealed to SEMA’s management to ensure the materials were distributed judiciously to the affected victims.
Mr. Gabi emphasized the need for the state’s residents to remain vigilant and gather intelligence to prevent further attacks, despite efforts to improve their livelihood. He expressed sadness over the loss of lives.
Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode, acknowledged HYPPADEC’s efforts in improving the livelihood of Benue people through various projects. He assured the commission of the state’s continued partnership in disaster management to keep the people safe.
The Governor thanked N-HYPPADEC for its timely response in alleviating the plight of the victims, stating that the donated items would be utilized for their intended purpose.
SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Mr. James Iorpuu, represented by Head of Administration, Dr. Donald Komgbenda, appreciated N-HYPPADEC’s support, noting it would help address the challenges faced by the displaced persons in various camps.
The donated items included mattresses, rice, palm oil, beverages, washing soap, detergent, mats, mosquito nets, and Hero Hunter motorcycles for enhanced security surveillance, among others.
