Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have elected a new Speaker, Nanlong Daniel, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Mikang constituency.
The election of the new Speaker was necessitated by the resignation of the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, who had tendered his resignation. Hon. Nanlong replaced Hon. Gabriel Dewan, a member of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), from Pankshin North.
The election took place on Wednesday during an emergency sitting held at the temporary Assembly Complex located at the Old Government House, Jos.
Daniel, the Member Representing Mikang State Constituency and a former Majority Leader in the 9th Assembly, was unanimously chosen by his colleagues to lead the 24-member legislature.
The emergency session was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gwotta Ajang, who facilitated the transition process. The Member representing Langtang North Central, Nanbol Lipstick, moved the motion for the nomination of Mr. Daniel, which was seconded by the Member representing Mangu North East, Abdul Yanga.
