Melody Nguevese Acha, a 37-year-old graduate of Estate Management from the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, has been living in pain for the past eleven years due to an injury she sustained during a fatal accident. Recounting her ordeal, the Gboko-born Melody shared
“I was once an active, vibrant young lady, full of life. But on July 29, 2014, while traveling from Makurdi to Kaduna, my life changed forever. Our taxi was involved in a ghastly accident at Maraba in Kaduna State, resulting in the deaths of three passengers, including the driver. The rest of us sustained severe injuries and were rushed unconscious to St. Gerard Hospital, Kakuri.”
Melody suffered a dislocation in her shoulder and wrist, which required immediate surgery. Splints were inserted to stabilize her bones, but 11 years later, the implants remain in her body due to financial constraints.
“The implants should have been removed shortly after surgery, but the lack of funds has left me living in continuous pain and physical discomfort,” she said. “Even now, doctors have advised that I will need about three months of hospitalization before the splints can be removed.”
The accident disrupted her academic journey, delaying her graduation and NYSC, which she eventually completed in 2019. Melody, the seventh of nine siblings, lost her father in 2022 and currently depends on the goodwill of others to survive.
“I’m unable to work, perform basic chores, or support myself. I rely entirely on others for even the most personal needs—clothing, toiletries, and daily care. It’s a humiliating way to live,” she lamented.
Melody now seeks assistance to raise ₦1.5 million for the necessary surgery and rehabilitation. “I have lived in pain for over a decade. I’m tired, but I still believe I can regain my independence and dignity with timely help.”
She appeals to government agencies, NGOs, and kind-hearted individuals to come to her aid. She further appealed to the public to make her story go viral.
