The newly appointed Chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Mr. Joseph Kwaghgba, assumed office on Monday, and read the riot act to staff. He charged staff to brace up for more productivity in discharging their duties to generate more revenue needed for the state’s development.
According to a statement released by the BIRS spokesperson, Suswam Jacob Terhemba, the new revenue boss stated during the handover ceremony at the Revenue House in Makurdi that staff performance would be measured and treated accordingly under his watch. He added that leaders at all levels would be held accountable for their tasks.
Mr. Kwaghgba emphasized that all staff would be held accountable for their actions and inactions. He assured that his administration would ensure that all monies collected are traceable and paid into the state revenue account.
The acting Chairman noted that broadening the tax net in revenue collection is an ongoing task and promised to pursue it diligently. He also acknowledged the importance of human resources in revenue administration and promised to manage and utilize the service’s workforce effectively for enhanced revenue generation.
Mr. Kwaghgba stressed that with these measures in place, staff would be expected to produce tangible results that would reflect in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). He thanked Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, PhD, for entrusting him with the assignment and promised to work diligently for the administration’s success.
Earlier, the immediate past Acting Chairman, Mr. Sunday Odagba, thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve as BIRS Chairman during the handover ceremony. He also urged management and staff to give Mr. Kwaghgba the same support he enjoyed as Chairman.
