Concerned Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State have dismissed and rejected any purportedly consensus governorship candidate adopted by a few individuals claiming to be acting on behalf of the party.
At a Press Conference on Tuesday in Lafia, the Spokesperson of the group, Comrade Jibrin Ibrahim, said the development was “false, undemocratic, and does not reflect the will of the majority of party members across the state.”
“We reject in totality this charade and manipulation, which is clearly orchestrated to mislead the public and impose a candidate through the back door”, he said.
The stakeholders emphasised that, the PDP is a party founded on the ideals of democracy, which includes inclusiveness, and fairness; and he noted that the processes leading to the emergence of candidates must be transparent, credible, and in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
“We insist that no aspirant has been adopted by the PDP Nasarawa State Chapter as the sole candidate for any elective position.
“The purported adoption lacks legitimacy, credibility, and the backing of the party organs or wider stakeholders,” he added.
According to the Spokesperson, the stakeholders called on the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party to disregard the alleged adoption and reaffirm its commitment to providing a level playing field for all aspirants.
He also urged the SWC to sanction party officials, including Mr Francis Orogu, the immediate past state chairman, who they said were promoting certain aspirants to the detriment of others.
“We call on the media to help set the records straight and not to be used to propagate falsehoods. The PDP in Nasarawa State belongs to all of us, not to a clique or privileged few”, the Spokesperson explained.
He said the stakeholders expressed commitment to ensuring that only the best, most credible, and popularly accepted candidate emerges through democratic processes.
