The Principal of Federal Girls’ College, Jalingo, Mrs. Justina Akure, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing deliberate initiatives aimed at equipping the girl child with essential skills for self-reliance. This pledge was made during the 2024/2025 School Annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day, held at the school hall on Monday in Jalingo.
Mrs. Akure emphasized that the training would not only foster employment and economic prosperity but also empower the girls to become valuable contributors to society. She highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship skills, stating that it would enable them to become potential wives and future mothers who are self-sufficient and capable of making meaningful contributions to the nation.
The Principal attributed the school’s recent achievements, including representing the nation in the Robotic Continental Competition in Rwanda Republic in 2024/2025, to the hard work of the management staff and the entire FGGC community. She also announced the school’s participation in the Pan-African Problem Solvers Challenger (PAPSC) 2025 competition, scheduled to take place in Abuja in August 2025.
However, Mrs. Akure expressed concern over the shortage of staff in critical subjects and security personnel, as well as the poor road network to the school. Despite these challenges, she commended the school’s academic excellence and extracurricular activities, which have earned FGGC Jalingo a reputation for nation-building.
The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Hassan Jouro, who is also the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Jalingo Local Government Council, praised the school’s management and staff for their dedication to the welfare and educational excellence of the students. He noted that the college’s efforts align with Governor Agbu Kefas’s initiatives to promote education for all, particularly the girl child, and pledged support for the college in terms of logistics and other needs.
The theme of the celebration, “The Girl Child: A Tool for Nation Building,” underscored the importance of empowering girls to become active contributors to the nation’s development.
