The Governor of Plateau State, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, has declared that Plateau State is the safest place to live in among states in Nigeria.
Speaking at a media parley at Government House Jos on Tuesday, Mutfwang revealed that no local government area in Plateau State was under the control of bandits.
“I will like to inform you that no local government in Plateau State is under the control of bandits; but I can confirm to all of you that there are local government areas in some part of the country that have been declared no go areas, they are under the control of bandits,” he said.
The governor commended the role of the media in projecting the state in a good light, noting that positive stories about Plateau have attracted more business communities to the state.
He emphasised that his administration prioritises tackling insecurity to make Plateau a conducive place to live and thrive in business.
Mutfwang also expressed eagerness for the implementation of state police to help address insecurity challenges.
The governor clarified that his administration plans to create modern ranches, not “Ruga,” for better animal rearing and high-quality milk production.
He explained that the improved cow breed to be kept in the ranches can produce about 20 liters of milk daily, compared to the current 2.5 liters produced by native cows.
On mining activities, Mutfwang lamented that illegal miners were depriving the state of revenue and that most communities being attacked, killed, and displaced are those with huge mineral deposits.
He assured that his administration will soon embark on grassroots sporting activities to harness rural talents for national and international sports.
In education, the governor noted that his administration has rescued the Plateau State Polytechnic and the state University, ensuring effective accreditation of courses and programmes.
In their separate remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt Hon Joyce Ramnap, and the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Dr Gyang Bere, appreciated the media for reporting government activities.
On her part, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, Mrs Ayuku Pwaspo, assured the governor and the government of Plateau State that her colleagues would continue to be professional in their duties in accordance with ethical standards.
