The Benue State House of Assembly, on Wednesday set up a five-member Ad Hoc Committee to investigate allegations of dual salary collection by Mr. Ojotu Mohammed, a Senior Personnel Officer in Ohimini Local Government Area and Acting Traditional Ruler in Agatu Local Government Area.
The committee, chaired by Hon. Cephas Dyako, member representing Konshisha State Constituency, includes Hon. Manager Manger (Tarka State Constituency), Hon. Anyor Matu (Kwande East State Constituency), Hon. Isaac Ochikliye (Ohimini State Constituency), and Hon. Moses Egbodo (Obi State Constituency) as members, with Francis Adole serving as Committee Secretary. The committee has two weeks to conduct its investigation and report back to the House.
The development followed a petition by Mr. Ojotu Mohammed, which led to the Benue State House of Assembly summoning the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Mr. James Ivever, to provide clarification on the compulsory retirement of the petitioner. During the hearing, Mr. Ivever revealed that a background check on the petitioner uncovered his absenteeism from work for over a year and collection of dual salaries from different Local Government Areas.
The House expressed displeasure over the petitioner’s actions and urged the committee to thoroughly investigate the matter. The House also summoned the Head of Service, Mr. Moses Agbogbo Ode, and Special Adviser on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Denen Aondoakaa, to appear before it on Friday, August 1st, 2025.
In other business, the House considered four bills, including the Benue State Power Rotation Bill and the Benue State Agency Against Quackery Bill
