The immediate past Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engr. Benson Abounu, the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries, and other associates have eulogized the virtues of the late Mrs. Comfort Agogo, who passed away on July 6, 2025. This was at the Service of Songs held on Wednesday and the Funeral Service held on Thursday at ECWA Church No. 1, Barracks Road, Makurdi.
Engr. Benson Abounu, in his remarks, described the deceased as an upright woman who stood for the truth wherever she found herself, and prayed that God would grant her soul eternal rest. “She was a very active woman, a woman of courage. She had a wonderful civil service career and retired honorably, and was honored with appointments. She was an emancipator for women; she made a lot of impact. She fought for Igede land and Zone C,” he said.
In their tributes, the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries, Benue State, described late Comfort Agogo as an upright woman who was straightforward in her dealings. Mrs. Lucy Ato, who spoke on behalf of the Association, said she was an active member and one of the trustees until her demise.
The funeral homily, titled “The Preciousness of Life and Death Before God,” was delivered by Pastor Prince Egbe Okpenge, who read from Psalm 116:15. He enjoined Christians to live a life that, at their funerals, the officiating minister would not have to tell lies.
Pastor Okpenge noted that death was inevitable, no matter how long one lives on earth, and that death is the wages of sin and the fall of man. He described death as an appointment everyone would keep, and admonished all to prepare for death while on earth, noting that where one spends eternity depends on the kind of life one lives while on earth.
The late Mrs. Comfort Agogo had a distinguished civil service career. In April 2002, she was appointed Director in the Ministry of Education. She was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Social Development in 2003 and also served in the Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives, and the Benue State Civil Service Commission.
After she retired from the Benue State Civil Service in 2010, she was called upon as a post-retirement political appointee to serve as the Chairman of the Benue State Civil Service Commission. In 2019, she was appointed Chairman of the Benue State Primary Health Care Board.
She is survived by six children and sixteen grandchildren. Her remains will be laid to rest on Friday, August 1, 2025, in her country home, Ega-Ibilla, Oju Local Government Area.
