The Benue State Government, through the office of the Benue State Agricultural Development Company, has declared a State of Emergency on food security as it has introduced the “Food Basket Model” as part of measures to address food security.
This was contained in a press release on Wednesday by the MD/CEO of Benue State Agricultural Development Company BSADC, Mr Donald Akule.
The release states that the declaration of a State of Emergency on food security was due to the growing challenges of food security in the state, and BSADC has initiated and rolled out programmes to uplift farmers as well as address the challenges and ensure sustainable food production across the state.
According to the release, there would be a comprehensive collection of digital data of farms and farmers that will enable planning, resource allocation and support, as well as free CAC registration of farmers by BSADC to foster community-driven agricultural development; and the introduction of all-year-round farming to enable continuous food production throughout the year such as goat, fish, poultry and livestock farming program that will focus on enhancing production and the unveiling of model farms to serve as learning hubs.
“Capacity Building and sponsored training for young agripreneurs, Women Empowerment Programs, as well as Children Regenerative Neuroeducation. Also, an Outgrower scheme will be designed to support farmers through outgrower arrangements and assist them in increasing production and accessing markets.
“The Benue State Agricultural Development Company (BSADC) is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural practices in Benue State, empowering local farmers, and ensuring food security through innovative initiatives and partnerships”
The release further states that more information on registration and participation would be released to the public in due time.
