NUP leadership denies extorting fellow members.

The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Benue state council has debunked the unfounded and libelous allegations against it by unscrupulous persons that, monies were collected from fellow pensioners, under the guise of processing their unpaid gratuities and pension arrears by the interim committee.

This was conveyed in a Communiqué issued at the end of their congress meeting on Thursday at Eunice Resort, Makurdi, and signed by the Chairman, Comrade Simon Anchaver and Secretary, Comrade J.Macmtsor.

According to the communique, congress observed with dismay attempts by some enemies of the union who are not only romancing with government officials, but also lobbying some of the appointees to set up an alien leadership structure and impose same on the NUP in the state.

Comrade Simon Anchaver was overwhelmingly adopted as the sole candidate for chairmanship in next year’s elections during the congress while the interim exco was mandated to stop Comrade Mike Vembeh led executive Council, EXCO from conducting elections next year.

Congress further mandated the interim EXCO to swing into action without delay and device a strategy to stop Comrade Mike Vembeh’s EXCO from conducting elections next year since the case he instituted against the interim committee is still pending in court and therefore, lacks the locus standi, pending the determination of the case.

“We are determined to resist any attempts by some aspirants, who are allegedly lobbying traditional rulers and government officials to have a safe landing in next year’s elections. Such impositions on the union only left pensioners in dilemma and relegated to the background in the past, which resulted to the outstanding gratuities and pension arrears”

The NUP members further expressed profound gratitude to the state Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for the prompt payment of monthly pension allowances to retirees and appealed to him to do more by paying the pending gratuities and pension arrears which he had promised.
