Nasarawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to fostering a strong partnership with the Correspondents’ Chapel, emphasising the importance of accurate and timely information dissemination.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Labaran Magaji, stated this recently during a courtesy visit by members of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council.
Barr Magaji acknowledged the crucial role the media plays in shaping public perception and reassured the government, under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, to provide necessary information to facilitate their work.
He commended the journalists for their support and coverage of the state government’s activities.
The SSG also highlighted the government’s achievements, including infrastructural development, payment of full salaries to civil servants, and empowerment of youths through skill acquisition programs.
He noted the discovery of lithium deposits in the state and the establishment of processing companies, which have created employment opportunities for over 1,000 youths.
“Nasarawa State has the largest deposit of lithium in Nigeria, and that has attracted many investors to the state.
” To ensure rapid development, His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule, has directed that any investor extracting solid minerals must establish a processing company.
“Today, we are happy to have witnessed lithium processing companies across the state employing not less than 1,000 of our youths,” he said.
The SSG urged journalists to verify information before publishing, stressing the need to maintain credibility and professionalism. He cautioned against spreading misinformation that could incite public unrest or tarnish the state’s image.
He expressed gratitude for the Correspondents’ Chapel’s support and assured them of his commitment to ensuring they are carried along in the government’s activities.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Comrade Isaac Ukpoju, congratulated the newly appointed SSG on behalf of the union.
Ukpoju expressed confidence in the SSG’s ability to leverage his experience to enhance the state governor’s efforts and those of other government officials.
He also mentioned some challenges facing union members in the state and assured the SSG of the union’s commitment to upholding ethical principles and professionalism.
