A charming and chubby lady, Miss Ruphina Amee Iorahii who is a front line contender in the maiden edition of the Benue North East (Zone A) Chubby Queen title, has promised to take proactive steps to bring healthcare services directly to the vulnerable and less privilege in the senatorial district who have limited access to medical facilities, if she emerge winner in the grand finale of the competition scheduled for Saturday, 29th of March, 2025 at Adikpo in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue state.
The Kwande-born beauty queen who is also a Makurdi based Healthcare practitioner, made her intentions known recently in a telephone conversation with The Voice Entertainment and Society saying, “My involvement is beyond beautiful appearance. I have always had the dreams of providing medical needs to the less privilege in my own little way. As a healthcare practitioner, I see this as a good platform to actualize my age-long dreams hence my joining the race.
“I saw the advertisement of the Chubby Queen title online and what prompted me to go into the contest proper was my realization that contestants were made to suggest a pet project that would add value to the communities within the zone and I’m fully convinced that God want me to use this medium to execute my plans”.
The curvy Nurse further expressed optimism that she will carry the day. “I’m contesting with great confidence and I’m optimistic that I will defeat all the other contestants who are also jostling for the same title with me because I know I have got all the intricacies more than any of them. I’m self confident, outspoken, exposed and I underwent all the bloated training for the competition.
On the negative perceptions which some people have on beauty pageants generally, she said, “the negative perceptions are a normal part of the society where human beings have different ways of thinking. Just as some persons have negative perceptions about the pageantry, others have positive views about it. And to the best of my knowledge and findings, this particular one is modest and I have got all the due diligence required for the contest and my mother also gave me her blessings. So, I don’t have any feelings of guilt”, she retorted.
Responding on behalf of the organizers, the convener/Chief Executive Officer of Star Lens Entertainment, King Destiny Orduen (Tor-kwaor-Tiv International), said the idea of the Chubby queen is to empower the girl-child materially, emotionally and socially within the senatorial zone.
“It should be noted that 2025 is the maiden edition of the pageantry but we already have Mr/Miss pegeants in existence. So, the chubby queen is just an extension of it. For a long time, the plus size woman has been made to feel less beautiful because of the lopsided beauty standards set by the society. So the chubby pageant was added to showcase to the world that all women are beautiful regardless of their weight”.
The convener maintained that, “It is going to be an annual event with its activities kicking off from February to end of March. This year is the beginning and you can see that the beginning of everything project comes with litany of challenges. That is why only the overall winner will be taking home just a plasma TV but the second edition promised more publicity and more sponsorships that will see the winner and the second runner-ups going home with bigger rewards”.
