The All Muslim Community Leadership Forum Benue South has distanced itself from the recent attacks and kidnappings of innocent citizens in Otukpo Local Government Area and other parts of Idomaland, carried out by suspected herdsmen.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the group’s Chairman, Ambassador Dr. Umar Ajape, and signed by the Secretary, Alhaji Garba Greyma, condemned the actions as “barbaric, devilish, and a carnage against the peace-loving people of Idoma nation.
“The statement reads in part: “We, the Muslims in Idomaland, call on security agents to leave no stone unturned in their investigations and ensure that those found culpable are given appropriate punishment in accordance with the laws of the land. We dissociate ourselves from the actions of these criminal herders, as their behavior does not align with Islam. Such actions are haram (sinful), as the Holy Koran forbids the shedding of human blood.”
On behalf of the Muslim Community in Benue South, Dr. Ajape extended condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones in the attacks and sympathized with the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Prince Maxwell Ogiri, and the Idoma Area Traditional Council, led by the Och’Idoma, Dr. John Elaigwu.
The group also expressed condolences to the people and government of Benue State over the Good Friday massacre in Ukum Local Government Area. The statement prayed for God’s grace to help the Idoma nation and the state overcome the grief, while calling on the government to enhance security measures to protect lives and property.
The Muslim Community reiterated its commitment to the development and safety of Idomaland.
