The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, Comrade Linus Angbo, has called on teachers to work diligently to justify the significant investments made by Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia in the education sector.
Speaking with The Voice Friday, Comrade Angbo highlighted the government’s notable interventions, including prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities, as well as school renovations, teacher recruitment, and promotion of ICT and school sports. He emphasized that teachers, particularly those at the basic school level, have never had it so good.
Angbo urged teachers to take advantage of the government’s goodwill and work hard to encourage further investments. However, he also appealed to the authorities to give special consideration to schools in rural areas, citing the poor state of infrastructure and the need for teacher postings that reflect the needs of these schools.
The NUT Chairman thanked his colleagues for their support and promised to clear outstanding benefits for retired and deceased teachers, as well as build a union hall for the organization before the end of his tenure.
